Summer in the Netherlands has a way of stretching the evenings into something soft and cinematic. The light lingers longer, the air feels slower, and suddenly even an ordinary Tuesday evening can look like a scene from a romance film. For couples photoshoots, it is the perfect season.

I love a sun set. I am definitely someone who chases sunsets.

I remember when I was a little girl, visiting my grandmother, we were standing on her front porch and we saw the most beautiful sunset. I could not stop staring. It was the most beautiful sky with clouds that looked like pink and purple candy floss.

Then my gran said to me that what makes this extra special is that this is a gift from God, he paints us this beautiful picture and shows it to us every evening and the best of all is, that he will never paint us the same picture twice. We will always get a new one.

And until today, everytime I look at a sunset, I literally see my grandma on the porch with me saying those words.

Summer Evenings in the Netherlands

Every summer, I photograph couples from all over the world. Some are locals who want to celebrate a season of life together, while others are expats or travellers visiting the Netherlands for the very first time.

Some are here for only a few days, wandering through canals, flower fields, little villages, and city streets with stroopwafels in hand. Others have built a life here and want photos that feel connected to the place they now call home.

Golden hour in the Netherlands is honestly unmatched. During the summer months, the sun sets late, covering everything in warm golden light that feels romantic without trying too hard.

Skin tones glow softly, the skies often turn pastel pink and orange, and even simple locations suddenly feel dreamy.

You Do Not Need to Give Up Your Whole Weekend

And the best part? Couples do not have to give up an entire weekend for a photoshoot.

One of the things my couples love most about summer sessions is how easy they fit into real life. If you work a regular 9 to 5 job, there is still plenty of time to meet after work for a relaxed evening shoot.

You can finish your workday, have a glass of wine and dinner together, and head into the evening without the stress of rushing.

No waiting weeks for a free Saturday. No rearranging packed summer schedules filled with birthdays, festivals, travel plans, or dinners with friends.

Instead, it becomes a little pause in the middle of life.

A slow evening together.

A walk through the city.

Or barefoot moments on the beach.

Laughter while the sky turns gold.

Those are often the moments couples remember most.

The Best Moments Are Usually the In-Between Ones

I always encourage couples not to worry too much about posing perfectly. The most meaningful photographs usually happen in between.

Walking hand in hand, fixing each other’s hair in the wind, laughing over something silly, or simply holding each other while the sun disappears behind the horizon.

Those quiet in-between moments are where the real story lives.

I will still prompt and guide you, give a few poses, so do not worry about feeling awkward in front of the camera. But your gallery will not be full of posed photos.

There will be a lot of in between moments that you probably did not even realise happened until you see the photos.

More Than Just Beautiful Photos

A couple photoshoot in the Netherlands during summer is not only about beautiful photos. It is about creating a memory together while you are here, whether this country is your home for now or just one stop in your story together.

And honestly, there is something so special about ending an ordinary workday enjoying a beautiful sunset with the person you love most.
